The
Jackson Drive extension project in Independence is
about on schedule, according to Shar Dilmaghani,
construction projects supervisor for the city of
Independence.
“The plan is to have it finished by April,”
Dilmaghani said. “But it may be pushed back to May
depending on how bad a winter we have.”
In addition to the intersection at Jackson Drive and
39th Street having two more right turn lanes due to
the anticipation of increased traffic congestion,
the project includes the extension of Jackson Drive
north from 37th Terrace to R.D. Mize Road. Bridges
are being built over the Kansas City Southern
railroad, Crackerneck Creek and the north fork of
Crackerneck Creek. While the Jackson Drive extension
is more than 75 percent complete, the work planned
at the intersection of Jackson Drive and 39th Street
is a little more than 50 percent finished.
Dilmaghani said the Jackson Drive extension will
include a new intersection at R.D. Mize.
“We’re going to work with the contractor (Radmacher
Brothers) to set up a plan for the intersection,”
Dilmaghani said.
So far winter weather has had little effect on the
work schedule, Dilmaghani said.
“Everything is going well, though we’ve had some
delays due to a utility transmission that was pulled
while we were constructing the railroad bridge,”
Dilmaghani said. “The project was delayed some
weeks, but the contractor may be able to catch up if
the weather is good.”
